Treasury Staff Accountant - Multi-Family Property Management

OVERVIEW
The Treasury Accountant is responsible for maintaining all banking requirements and processing transactions for both the corporation and portfolio of properties managed.  This position will be responsible for adhering to practices and procedures to ensure the processing of cash transactions are in compliance with bank and regulatory requirements, maintaining all bank accounts and balance reporting, opening and closing bank accounts as needed, reconciling banking activity to all general ledgers, processing certain types of bank transactions, and reporting bank balances accurately and timely as required. This position addresses tight timeframes and deadlines, interaction with other accounting staff and departments, and account reconciliations. In addition, this role will develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including clients, property site employees, operations leadership, and corporate/departmental staff which requires strong interpersonal (verbal and written) communication skills.

This is not a remote role.  Required workplace is Gaithersburg, MD.  Hybrid schedule, including 2 days work-from-home, may be provided.


RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of banking transactions, banking relationships, and cash management, including transaction processing and reconciliations.
  • Ensure the timely and accurate reporting of cash balances and activity on a daily, weekly, monthly, and year-end basis based on corporate and client needs.
  • Perform daily banking transactions independently.
  • Collaborate with the other accounting and operations staff to support overall department goals and objectives.
  • Respond to inquiries from ownership groups, regulatory agencies, Accounting Supervisors, and other finance and firm wide managers regarding cash activity, cash balances, special reporting requests and the like.
  • Assist with the year-end audit process.
  • Treasury transactional tasks include, but are not limited to: bank statement downloads, process daily demand checks, wires, and ACH, reconcile positive pay, payroll funding, retrieve and update cash balances daily, perform funding transactions in accordance with regulatory requirements, open and close bank accounts based on operational activity, reconcile all bank accounts based on required timing, and report cash balance for corporate, operational, and regulatory requirements in accordance with respective policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, and a host of client-specific reporting and financial accounting responsibilities.
  • Support Accounting Supervisors/Management with special projects or other tasks, duties, or responsibilities as assigned.

May be called upon to assist or support in the following areas:
  • Process Replacement Reserve Requests including coordination of quarterly notification with Operations, assisting pulling supporting invoices and documentation to support reserve requests, assess allowability based on expenses and fund availability, prepare and submit HUD and Bank requests, and update and monitor collections of reserve request approvals.
  • Manage the corporate Central Disbursement and Central Payroll process including allocation of property expenses to appropriate accounts, performing fund transfers as applicable, and reconciling central disbursement activity monthly including reconciling with bank accounts and general ledger property due to/from accounts.
  • Coordinate payment of property payables including assessment of sufficient cash, oversight of cash tracking tool, execute prioritization of payment based on direction of Operations, and perform fund transfers as needed based on payments made.
  • Oversee the RUM and ConService funding process for all properties based on use of those services and related utility billing.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education
  • BA/BS in Business with an emphasis in Accounting is desired
Technical Skills and Prior Experience
  • 2+ years’ experience in the accounting field, particularly with treasury/banking experience.  Multi-family property management industry experience is a plus.
  • Must be PC proficient and able to thrive in a fast-paced setting. Experience with RealPage, MRI, YARDI or other large, automated accounting systems a plus. Must have strong experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Teams, etc.).
  • Strong interpersonal and customer service skills required.
  • Strong English spoken/verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, work under pressure, and meet deadlines required.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team and take on new tasks with a moderate level of difficulty.


This role is exempt and has an anticipated annualized base salary range of $65k-$85k for a new employee depending on a number of relevant factors including individuals’ experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, abilities, client/property or company budgetary limitations/guidelines, and other job-related company and market considerations.  This position may be eligible to receive discretionary and/or performance-based bonuses on a spot or annual basis, which are variable depending on individual merit/performance, budgetary limitations, company performance, and other job-related factors.  Full-time positions (30+ hours/week) are eligible for 2 weeks paid vacation, 3 weeks sick and related leave, 11 paid holidays, and health & welfare benefits as outlined on the Company’s website.  To learn more about our company and our benefits, go to: https://pratumco.com/careers/
